Webdork Support

Webdork is a term of endearment for folks that know more about computer things than me. These people include 90% of bloggers and your average 8 year old.

I have a few questions for which I desire help.

What is RSS and why do I need it? How much will it cost me?
What other pieces of website/blog gadgetry should I be aware of?

If you are as clueless as me, don't be afraid to admit your shortcomings here. You're among friends...

RSS stands for Really Simple Script (I think) and your blogspot blog should already have it. I'm sure there are other good reasons that you would want it, but the only reason I know is so that people who use blog aggregators (sp?) to keep track of their friends' blogs will know when you've published a new post. It saves us the trouble of having to surf to your blog everyday to see whether you've posted anything new. I used bloglines.com to create my list of blogs, and it told me you had posted this very post. Amazing! :)

Alan,

Looks like Mitch may have you fixed up. RRS will help Google find you when people search for things. It updates my bloglines, etc. Your blog looks great. Thanks for stopping by mine.

As Mitch said, it allows your readers to stay updated with your site without actually visiting your site on an hourly basis - they can be notified as soon as you update.

How much will it cost me?

I can show you how to use it for the low, low price of $250 or a Nintendo Wii.

I use Google Reader, but Bloglines.com is also good. I believe that most browsers (not sure about IE) have the RSS symbol (an orange square with white half circles) on the right hand side of the navigation bar (where you type in your web addresses).

Just adding to the already good info you have received. I use the Google Reader, but don't like Bloglines.com (they lost my feeds more than once.)

Yahoo also has a pretty good RSS system...whatever works best for you. The free readers work just fine.

It's actually Really Simple Syndication, Mitchdork.

Yeah, Mitchdork (Thanks, bud.)

Thank you, Trey.

I'm just an accessory; the wife makes the picture. Thanks Lacey.

Todd, you're a Wii guy? Man, I would have figured you for an XBOX man. I guess those old Nintendo habits are hard to kick.

Larry, thanks for stopping by. Free stuff is always good. I think I'll try the Google Reader and see where it takes me.

Keith, how are things in the office with all the new staffers?

Чистый Вы оцениваете 90-е годы XX века?Вот простой непредвзятый опрос и урок, чисто из любопытства, ради всех, даже чтобы тех, кто, в силу молодости, плохо помнит «Лихие 90-е».
